Consolation first round against Lawrence Keeter. Although it was not shown in the score things came together in the second set. I was able to play the way I was in Indian Wells in that set.
In this tournament I was concerned about barometric pressure and the effects of it on the ball due to altitude. I had two rackets strung tighter because I had spoken to a couple of coaches, stringers and read on the net that that was what you should be doing at higher altitude. Vancouver has a pressure of 101 Kpa. In Tucson it is 30 Kpa. What that means that the ball has a little less atmospheric pressure on it or less resistance when it is travelling through the air. I was training for this tournament in Palm Desert California and discovered after the first day that the barometric pressure was the same in Tuscon and Palm Desert according to internet sources. I decided on my second day of training that I would use a tighter racket. However a month ago when I played well in Indian Wells the pressure would have been close to the 30 Kpa. Not thinking of that fact I chose to go ahead with the tighter rackets in Tucson.
Early in the second match of the open I decided to change to the looser strung racket that i used in Indian wells. It instantly made a huge difference.
I realize now that it is my skill (spin) that I should have changed and I should have realized from my performance in Indian Wells that the original tension worked. The next time I go to another altitude I will sting one extra racket but start with my regular set up and switch if needed.
Soooo. Second set went well. The best service game for me was; flat serve T ace, flat serve Wide ace, flat serve T long, spin serve Jam shank, flat serve T ace. game over.
I lost.
I have a lot to work on. I am readjusting my tournament schedule for this year. I am going to change my training routines.
with warm up… 2 3602
