It was a nice ten week vacation. Spent most of it at home. I just had a week off of tennis and am now back in the game. Played doubles today and really rocked the court. Stiff muscles afterwards. I will be trying out new strings over the next few weeks.
Gave some strings a new try. They are solid core for a big change from what I have now. I dropped my tension on the advice of Keith at Rackets and Runners. They were erratic at first. it was a big adjustment. They require much less force than my old ones. Likely some of it to do with the tension. I have never had a string that forced me to adjust my stroke so much.
Dave kicked my ass 0-6 0-6 but we had many long rallies and it was a blast. When it was 0-5 in the second set I said, “I think it is the string.” He laughed and responded with, “I was waiting for that.”
Big wind today in excess of 50 km/h. We only rallied. Trying to get used to the new string. I liked the way they feel. I may have to string a second racket to take this change seriously. It was a lot of work. Thanks Dave.
On the new strings. LOL ya sure… blame it on the strings.
Tried sticking with the flat serve on my first three services as it was only a practice match. We did not even warm up serves. I would not do that in a real match. It was frustrating as I could not hold more than a game lead until the score was 4-3. Then it all changed. Louis was playing his regular game and I was becoming more and more tentative. Sure this was “just a practice match” but usually the end score was 6-0 6-1 or 6-2 6-0 on a day when Louis was on his game it would last longer and at the end, one set, at 6-3. But today I was not holding the lead. One of my first wins today was based on him faulting three times. I triple faulted on my second service, broken.
Then it happened the score was 4-5. He was winning. In me for a few seconds; the emotion, the thoughts. WOW, never felt that before. EVER! I was surprised. Where the fuck did this come from??? Why am I feeling this way? What the fuck is going on?! This hurts in my chest. I better pick it up. I better pick it up. I better pick it up. I am not hitting. I am not setting up for my shots.
I started hitting harder. Faults were about the same. I took control. Honestly Louis was playing his best. 5-5, 5-6, then 6-6. The tie breaker begins. He takes the first 4. 1-4, 2-4, 2-5,3-5, 4-5, 4-6, 5-6, 6-6, 7-6, 8-6. Sigh. Did it.
Thank you Louis That was a good time. I learned allot
Stings are here to stay. I rested up for today’s play and all went well. Serves and shots were great.
Hit with the DH. All was great. THANKS!
Two sets with Louis. I did not do great. 6-1, 6-3. Thanks Louis!!! You played well.
